How IEID's Blue Economy Park is Transforming Mombasa's Logistics Sector

Mombasa has always been East Africa's gateway. What has been missing is a place where cargo can be processed, manufactured and value-added before it moves inland. The Blue Economy Park changes that equation.
By co-locating seafood processing, cold chain facilities, maritime services and light assembly directly against port connectivity, tenants cut average shipping turnaround times by thirty percent. For perishable exporters, that difference decides which markets they can serve.
The zone's design reflects its coastal setting: wetland buffers protect mangrove systems, processed wastewater feeds landscaped corridors, and maritime workshops service the very vessels that call at the port.
Marine biotechnology is the sleeping giant here. Early tenants are extracting high-value compounds from processing by-products - pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals and cosmetics inputs that were previously discarded.
With berth-side land now leased out and the second cold chain facility underway, the park expects to triple throughput within three years - and prove that ocean-adjacent industry and ocean health are not competing goals.
